7 Easy Ways to Help the Planet This Earth Day

Earth Day is the perfect time to make a few small changes that can have a big impact! From planting natives to supporting local, here are seven easy ways to show the planet a little love.

1. Add native plants to your garden

Native plants are made for our local climate, which means they thrive with less water, fewer chemicals, and require less maintenance. They also give birds, bees, and other pollinators a place to call home. Win-win.

2. Limit the use of pesticides

Spraying less often (or not at all) is better for your garden and the local environment. Look for natural alternatives or use companion planting to keep pests under control in a gentler way.

3. Reduce food waste by composting

Composting is easier than you think and your plants will love you for it. Just toss in your veggie scraps, coffee grounds, and garden clippings, and over time you'll have nutrient-rich compost to feed your soil.

4. Use water-saving sprinklers

Water is precious, especially in Perth. Smart sprinklers, drip irrigation, and soaker hoses help you get water to the roots without waste.

5. Water your garden when the sun’s not out

Early morning or late evening is the best time to water. You’ll lose less water to evaporation, and your plants will get more of the good stuff right where they need it.

6. Swap out single-use plastics

From reusable shopping bags to compostable bin liners and beeswax wraps, there are plenty of easy swaps that cut down on waste. Choosing reusables at home and in the garden helps keep plastic out of our soil, waterways, and oceans.

7. Shop local and with purpose

When you shop with small, local businesses, you're backing people who genuinely care about quality, sustainability, and the community. Whether it’s your local nursery, grocer, or garden maintenance team (like us!), your support helps grow something good, right where you live.

Happy Earth Day!
